Originally conceived as a “storeroom of printed things,” the library recently moved into a working artist studio in Nariman Point. Here, it offers a growing, deliberately “un-curated” collection of books, visual references, and graphic materials from around the world — resources on art, design, and craft gathered to invite curiosity and inspire both creative practice and critical thought.
LIBRARY OF PRINTED THINGS defies conventional genre boundaries, assembling materials that mirror the full spectrum of creative inquiry. Novels on colonial histories sit alongside artist retrospectives; illustrated children’s books share space with technical manuals on textile-making. Photography, fashion, jewelry, and textiles intersect with architecture, urban design, and book arts, while memoirs, poetry, satire, and philosophy expand perspectives on art and aesthetics. Beyond books, the collection also encompasses printed ephemera: posters, postcards, pamphlets, packaging, and paper fragments, objects — all that reveal how design, communication, and material culture intersect in everyday life. From graphic novels and exhibition catalogues to magazines, advertisements, and pedagogical texts, the holdings span everything from 18th-century volumes to contemporary works — supplemented by rare editions, multiple printings, and access to select podcasts, videos, e-books, and editorials.
Together, LIBRARY OF PRINTED THINGS invites exploration — bridging histories, disciplines, and lived experiences through the joy of unexpected discovery.
